Web Design that Works

Satisfied Web Development Clients

The same dedication and skill that goes into the development of commercial web sites, is used to construct even the smallest site. Whether a page is being designed for a 20 page site or a 3 page site, it still deserves the best effort I can give. You may also wish to view my commercial web site design.

Private and Noncommercial Sites

These web pages are done for individuals with very small businesses, non-profit groups or simply for centers of family information and contact. I cannot give links to some of these sites since they are private and for "members only." Often, the look and feel is very different from that of a larger business, giving a much more relaxed image. If you would like a family site but don't know how to get started, I can lay out the site and train you to update information as needed using some very simple, inexpensive tools.

Children's Special Needs Network, is a non-profit organization which assist families of children with special needs. The previous site was poorly designed with flashing bars and navigation that caused the site to be very slow to load. The calendar was not based on their server and was no longer available to the organization. The site was poorly organized causing a viewer to constantly click links to another page in order to get the information they wanted. The information on their site changes frequently so updates need to be accomplished with a minimum of adjustments.

The new design greatly reduced the number of pages in the site and incorporated their new logo and colors. The navigation and layout of this site is done entirely using Style Sheets. This makes the design more flexible and changes to navigation more simple. Using styles and java script allows the site to display smaller graphics when the screen width is below 1000 pixels. The header and navigation remains fixed as the page scrolls giving the look of frames without the problems associated with frames and search engines. There is also a separate style for printing which shows a print header giving the location and contact information followed by the main content of the page.

Peace Lutheran Church, Hewitt, Texas

Littlefield Methodist

Littlefield Methodist wanted to use the E-zekiel site which the First United Methodist Church offers it member churches as a means of having quality web sites that staff or volunteers can update. However, they wanted something more personal than most of the templates offered.

Using my knowledge of CSS I was able to create a home page highlighting two views of their facilities. On the inside pages the header makes use of photos of members of their congregation. The menus were adjusted to fit their wishes and display more clearly.

After setting the site design and applications to meet their desires and needs, I have trained members of their congregation to use the control panel and design elements. This is an ongoing project and I continue to support and work with their contact person.

The Austin Tutor was pleased with their web site design, but wanted a contact page that would generate an email. Though I usually use ASP, it was not available on this server so I used PHP to generate the email they needed on their site. Being able to use a variety of programming languages is essential to web page design since every hosting server has its own criteria. There were also some minor problems with the menu covering part of the text at low screen resolution. The new web design solved that problem as well. Once this task was completed the owner wanted the Austin area to know they were available for tutoring so the site was optimized and promoted to several search engines. The resulting publicity has generated numerous contacts and business opportunities for the site owner.

Wedding Site Design

Wedding Sites: A future bride asked if I would create a wedding site in which she could publish details of her upcoming wedding along with useful information that would help her guests feel more comfortable when they visited Austin. The flower border was created to the bride's specifications using photos of flowers from my garden. The background cross was also designed at her request. Although the actual site is password protected, you can see a working demo in which the actual information has been replaced to preserve the bride's privacy.

The wedding page contains the working demo along with several graphics to give other ideas for design. However, the final project will be designed to to reflect your personality, your wishes, and your budget.
